Sheffield Rifle Club has been in existence for over one hundred years. The club is affiliated to National Rifle Association and the Yorkshire Rifle Association. It enjoys a health rivalry with other Yorkshire Clubs in Leeds and Huddersfield.
Traditionally the club was based at Totley Range on the outskirts of Sheffield. The Territorial Army operated this range, but sadly it was closed to live firing in 1997. Since then Sheffield Rifle Club has continued to use a variety of ranges in the Yorkshire / Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire region.
The club now shoots at Thorpe Cloud Range near Ashbourne in Derbyshire. The club has members from Sheffield, Derbyshire and Nottingham and is actively looking to increase its membership.
The main shooting discipline is target rifle shooting typically with 7.62mm or 5.56mm bolt-action rifles at both short range (200 – 600yds) and long range (800 – 1000yds). Metallic as opposed to optical rifle sights are used.
There are many scratch and handicap competitions to compete in, with a wonderful collection of silver trophies presented annual at the prize giving dinner.
